As for well water, is it safe for you to drink without boiling it? If so then your pets will be fine too. And like bcr said, if the bottle of water said from a municipal fluoridated water source, it means its from their tap aka water from a faucet.

The well water smells like rotten egg and looks yellowish so no, we don't ;) even if so, it tastes awful. We don't trust it

If the water is safe enough for you to drink its safe for almost any animal, but your well sounds like it needs some major help

Sounds like some good old sulphur water. You'll get used to the smell/taste, and it should be perfectly fine to drink. :gj:

If in doubt run by home depot or lowes. I believe both stores have water testing kits you can pick up for free and send off a sample.

If it's safe for you it's definitely safe for the rat. Some exotics (mainly frogs) are sensitive to the fluoride and chlorine in tap water, so it has to be treated with something like ReptiSafe or Seachem Prime (I use Prime). The snakes are typically fine without treated water, but I treat mine since I've already got to treat a lot of water for my frogs. If you don't feel safe with the tap water, treating it won't hurt anything if it'll make everyone feel better.

Well it sounds like your well water is very questionable. So in that case, I wouldn't give it to any of my animals and I definitely wouldn't drink it myself.

It definitely is. It's been better the past day or so with a treatment of hydrogen peroxide but I still don't drink it and neither do my babies.
