    I use a CHE for heat, along with a "basking bulb" which the light from isn't necessary for most, but I don't want her out during the day (say if it's cloudy) I have a chameleon I house in the same room. The basking bulb is mostly for heat though. I turn off her light when I turn off my room light for the night. And turn it on after I feed my chameleon in the morning. She doesn't "need" the light, but a light cycle is healthy. I used to use a red bulb at night for viewing, but it became useless because I'd turn it on and pass out.
