Well, your lid just looks complicated. I can't see it real well in the photo though. Just be sure those weights don't roll over and rip through the mesh. You don't want a squished snake. Also if there are any little openings or doors (made to easily drop food in for other animals for instance) you may want to put duct tape or something over them so your snake doesn't open them and get out. (that's what happened to me)

the way the openings work (there are 2) is a screw in lid i doubt entirely that Monty although i love him very much has the brain resources to unscrew a lid

the wieghts are resting on a thick plastic ledge at the ends of the lid and there are plastic crossbeams that line up with the openings so it woosd be hard to tear through
the weights themselves are ten pounds each and arent circular they are hexagonal (pretty hard to role) the only problem is when i use them to work out (then i put some books on it)
    i got a question

can you put plastic underneath the heating lamps or will it lessen the amount of heat that gets through (or will it melt it?)

Ok, sounds like your lid is just fine.

Why would you put plastic under the lamps? It would lessen the heat, and it could melt.. depends on the lamp and the plastic.

I'd also ditch both the analog tempeture meters and the analog hydrometers and just got get an digital temp that does both. It will be a lot more accurate.

Go to Walmart and in the air conditioning section, or where the outdoor thermometers are, they have Accurite Digital Thermometer/Hygrometer combo. It runs about $15 and is very essential in maintaining the proper temps and humidity. Analogs are notoriously inaccurate and can run 10-20 degrees above or below what the temp actually is, as does the humidity one. The digital one just saves you so much trouble.
