Recommend a lizard

No, there is a lot more to a lizard than whether or not they have legs.

I currently own a bearded dragon (would totally recommend) and have owned iguanas in the past (would not recommend). Right now I'm thinking of getting another lizard and am going to go with either a second beardie, a frilled dragon, or a red eyed crocodile skink. The skink is way cool, but I'm kind of turned off by the whole "handling is bad for them" thing.

One way to determine if it's a lizard are if it has ears and the head shape.

I used to want a red eye croc also but then I found out they hide a lot and also that you can't handle them. They are probably one of the coolest looking lizards around though

I have owned crested geckos, a blue tongue skink and now a leopard gecko. My favorite so far has been the leopard gecko. She is a joy to keep. Easy to handle, easy to feed, no UVB needed and they don't get too big so you don't need a big enclosure.

Hey my reptile shop has beaded lizards, I know nothing about then and literally just saw them a minute ago. I think I'm in love with this lizard! Does anyone know about permits for them? Try are venomous but this shop usually has a disclaimer about needing licenses and permits for their venomous... These guys have no disclaimers
I know it depends on area so I'm in FL if it helps

Looks like any poisonous or venomous reptile in Florida requires a permit. Non venomous lizards have no restrictions except that releasing non-indigenous species into the wild is very illegal

Seriously though, those croc skins are these awesome looking tiny dragon lizards, but holding them too much can shorten their life expectancy. They also spend all their time hiding, lay a single egg at a time, and aren't much bigger than the palm of my hand. I feel cheated... what about armadillo lizards? Similar look to them, but that's all I know about them.

Very true, not all tegus are "puppy dogs" and even if they are I've never seen one like that 100% of the time...my girl is no where near full grown and the strength that she has is amazing. When she is in a mood and starts doing the death rolls, tail whipping, etc she can keep you on your toes.

Iguanas are the same way. My male was sweet most of the time and pretty easy to tell when he was in a mood, but my female was the devil incarnate. No matter what I did or how I tried to calm her down, she wanted nothing to do with me or anything else with a heartbeat. I thought she'd eventually calm down, but every day she put forth her best effort to maul my hand while I was giving her her food with the small exception of the time after she was gravid. I didn't breed her, btw. She became gravid and laid a 32 slug clutch a few years after my male passed away.

The volatile temperaments and huge caging needs are parts of why I don't recommend iguanas.

Beaded Lizard / Gila Monster are awesome but not an animal for handling.

If you want a big personality in a small package Ackies are promising. I have been doing similar research to you for a few years now and that's where I landed.

Brandon at Rare Earth has clutches hatching all the time and usually a few juvenile or adult single animals available. I would recommend checking with him if that's where your research leads you. Females and breeding groups can be tricky to care for but a single male doesn't have unreasonable care requirements, has a big personality in a small package, and handle quite well.
