sorry about your dad. that must be hard.. :(

Mark will be in Iraq anywhere from 8 months to a year or more. for right now, they're only saying 8 months. but it could change. :( it sucks, its hard enough with him being in NC, but take out talking to him everyday on the phone and seeing him every 2-3 months, i'll be a nervous wreck for 8 straight months.

first_time_herp, you're a VERY good writer for being 13!! i'm impressed. i'm really good at english/writing and i wanted to be a college eng. professor for a while, so i like writing and all that good stuff. if you do write a book, autograph it and send it to me. :)

FTH, my daughter who is a year older than you is interested in writing a book, too. She's encouraged by the fact that there have been a number of authors published while still in their teens, including Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird), S.E. Hinton (The Outsiders), Amelia Atwater-Rhodes (In the Forests of the Night), Joyce Maynard (Looking Back), Maureen Daly (Seventeenth Summer), Walter Farley (Black Stallion), Isabelle Carmody (Farseekers), Mary Shelley (Frankenstein), Zlata Filipovik (Zlata's Diary), and Louisa May Alcott (The Inheritance). I'm sure some of those are familiar to you. Only Farley was a boy, but I am sure there are other male teen authors who were published that I just don't know about. Don't assume you can't be a published author just because you're young. Work on your craft and you might just find a publisher willing to give you a chance. :)

Wow, I like your writing. It is pretty vivid and attention-grabbing considering your young age. If you ever get anything published, I'll buy a copy!
