I like the coastal you chose you won't be sorry. I'd highly suggest buying and reading THE COMPLETE CARPET PYTHON By Nick Mutton and Justin Julander.

Providing an enclosure that allows your carpet to climb will be of great viewing benefit. Even the large adult coastal carpets are found 4 meters up into the canopy according to experts that study them in Australia.

I have noticed my boa constrictor is semi arboreal as well and he is fed from his perches about 85% of the time.

I catch my coastal on her perches even more frequently.

You can't go wrong either way and you made a great choice.

I'm strongly considering a SD/Dwarf retic myself. They are also semi arboreal and will climb when given the proper setup.

Your coastal will be a really nice display animal!

    Great move!

I would like to hear what you think of both after some observation.

I'm still considering a SD but time is a ticking!

That is a beautiful retic BTW!

I would have said definitely a SD Goldenchild retic but I also prefer morphs. Also a SD purple retic would be awesome but unless I find a breeder of retics in my state, I'm pretty well sol.

I'd love to have an SD some day... preferably a GC, purple albino, or sunfire, etc. But they are just so dang expensive now. By the time they breed enough SD morphs to lower to price, the act will have long been active (unless USARK is successful). I'll probably just end up sticking with my boas... I know my husband would never be cool with spending that much for a snake. :/

Congrats on your new additions! It would be great if you could do a combined progress thread for both, just to see the differences in growth. I know the female is already very large, but I'm sure she'll still put on 4-6 feet at least (if she's a mainland). Good luck with them!

The. Big female is a coastal carpet python. Not a retic and is full grown. And the sd is a year old around 3.5 to 4 feet. Join the retic nation Facebook page I'm sure there is a breeder of some sort in your state
