    It should be said that no matter what heat source you choose, it will have to be regulated in some way. Whether by a thermostat or otherwise. Proper temperatures are one of the most important, if not the most important part of keeping your snake happy.

    Here is a picture I snapped one day when I was cleaning the tank and decided while it was empty to check the UTH's on the bottom so I flipped it on its side. You can see I had two UTH's taped to the bottom of the tank, this was because it's a 75 gallon tank that I had divided in half and had one BP on each side. I don't use the tank for my snakes anymore as I switched to tub racks when my collection grew. You can also see that in the center of each is a wire coming out of the UTH, this is the thermostat probe wire which was sandwiched between the UTH and the underside of the tank. As the others have said this is a must, as without the thermostat to regulate it it will run a full on and hurt your snakes.
