What about in the airplane itself? Are the animals actually kept in a heated area on the plane?

No Cowtipper, they are not kept in a heated area on the plane. It is climate controlled to avoid significant temperature drops at high altitude, but not to the degree that the main cabin is. At least, that is my understanding.
However, the problem does not arise on the plane specifically, but rather, in transporting the animal from the plane into the hub, which may or may not be climate controlled, and even if it is, it will still be extremely cold. The animal will then sit in the hub for several hours, which could be quite cold, before being taken back out onto the runway for loading onto the next plane. At all of these points, it would be much to cold for the snake.
To the OP, I would definitely wait to ship until after the blizzard passes in the north. Even if your animal isn't going there, it is going to cause all sorts of problems with travel until it passes. It will hold up planes that should have been in other areas, which will in turn cause delays everywhere. I would point this out to your buyer, and tell him that you will ship when it is deemed safe to do so for the sake of the animal. If he cares at all about his investment, or the safety of the animal, he will understand.

Have to agree with this!!! The animal should ALWAYS be put first. And I have to add, it's going to be your reputation on the line when it arrives dead and the buyer suddenly turns on YOU for shipping in such conditions. Do the responsible thing and refuse to ship until weather improves and you have the proper shipping supplies. If you lose the sale then the buyer will prove his true colors and at least your animal is alive and safe.
