Guess it's really just a matter of situation .... Before I had my own small chest freezer for the feeders however I had a bit of a battle with the room mate over having frozen rodents in the same freezer as our food. So depending on wife, husband, room mate, etc. I can see where a debate may arise LOL and having to buy another freezer just for the feeders is going to add more to expenses of the situation. As for me "Eh ... No big deal" I grew up a redneck, farming, country boy. It was nothing for me to wrestle the dog over the last piece of pizza he just stole and then eat it after I got the remaining half of it back from him. But then again I'm a special kinda crazy :D

    You're funny!

I found a local feeder breeder and now I get to buy my frozen pets local. I really save money now. :gj:

The sparrow cheeping in my living room is not allowed to read this thread!

LOL. That being said I honestly wouldn't risk feeding anything wild to your snake, for the same reason people say not to feed wild caught mice. it's much healthier to feed something raised in a clean environment. I'd take the advice of ordering a 6 month supply. It you're trapping and killing them anyways, though, and want to try I guess putting them in deep freeze could help - though I hear that there are some parasite eggs that can survive deep freeze? I may be wrong there. If you're going to try it I'd freeze them very cold for a long time.

I'm glad my roommates (even the vegetarian) don't have a problem with a horse of dead mice in the freezer!

And the big question will be if the snake will accept them as a food source

I have considered purchasing online, but yeah....that shipping. I used to keep a bunch in my garage "beer fridge" freezer, but that broke down and ruined a large supply. I don't currently have the room to store the dozens of rats it would take to make an order reasonable.

I hadn't thought about chicks as feeders before. I do have a small flock of silkies in my backyard, though I have never allowed any eggs to hatch. That could be another option.

I am concerned a bit about the nasties that may be hiding in the house sparrows. They "seem" dirty, but what does that really mean.

Thanks all for the input, gives me something to think about.

My first thought is that I wouldnt even think of feeding a wild caught mouse or rat to any of my collection.
You dont know what you are passing to your snake.
    Just my thoughts.
