I do not reccommend the clips for flexwatt. A soldered connection is more sound than one that uses pressure and spikes to make the connection. making a loose connection will provide resistance in the connection and make for unwanted heat buildup! And the tool to do the properly is about 40-50 bucks.... Thanks,

the manufacturer of the tape "CalorIQue" makes the clips for a reason.. the tool can be bought from them for 35 dollars they also sell tape to the public if any one is interested

all you have to do is request a price list

    Should I goto work today
Yup if you need 100 feet minium than you can order direct from the manufacture. They do reccommend the clips, but then again if your making cookies the box will recommend using a certain "brand" of chips also. If you have used the clips alot you would know they indeed will become loose.

i don't know about the clips for the flexwatt being good or bad. i use the clips btw. but over the past 16 years i have crimped alot of wires on hvac equioment and not had any problems with my connections. just my food for thought.

well if you really think about this , the crimped connection goes compeltly through the tape locking in to the other side keeping the the tape from seperateing from the clip . on the other hand solder is just melted to the out side of the tape , which any one who knows electronics would know.. if the solder isnt fluxed properly or the surface isnt prepared properly the joint will not hold correctly

Personally, I think heat tape only makes sense on racks, not on a single cage. I would just get a king-size heatpad, but that's just me.

Flexwatt comes in 25" also... It makes perfect sense on any application what needs to be heated unless it is a damp envirnoment...

I've used the clips a lot (almost 10 years now) and I've never had them come loose. Maybe a little more muscle into those crimps Matt? ... LOL ... j/k. Seriously though, I've never had a problem with loose clips.
