A small 12' x 24' room with a $200 AC unit (8000btu) and a $69 radiant oil heater will get the job done year round. At least it works here in my facility in Daytona. We keep temps at 72F- 75F year round with about a $50/month heating/cooling bill.

LOL that's what I've had to do to sell my hubs the idea. The walk in closet idea sounds like a good one. I agree with the comment about getting her involved.

I would be careful about jumping in too deep without the wife on board. In order to do it right it will take a decent investment of both time and money. Both of which could cause fights if she does not support your hobby. The more involved you can get her the better. My wife doesn't do much with the adults but around hatching time she is checking the incubator as much as I am.

I think when a lot of people say breed for EXTRA money mean to support their hobby. ..At least I hope so.

I think it would be amazing to "make" money off of doing the things we love. Whether it be working on cars, playing video games or even breeding snakes. I truly do not fault anyone for having such a dream and desire to do something they are passionate about while also making a living. But in the grand scheme of things it can not always be a reality. In the end all we can do is what we love and if that nets us some extra cash flow in the long run then let that be a bonus on top of a privilege we already get to enjoy.

OP, you seem to have a good head on your shoulders and some great ideas to go along with it. Ideally I think you would benefit to having the setup inside your home for better temp control as well as the added benefit to having them close to maintain and clean. But if you do decide to the outside room I would ensure it is insulated properly and has its own power supply.

    Good luck either way ;)

Step 1 , lose the wife! Everything else will fall in place.
