This is my baby Karma. She was bought as a feeder rat when her eyes were barely open. Her sibling was enough for my snake and that left her. It was suggested that I should kill her and freeze her, but I couldn't. She's special. I bottle fed her and now she is a very hyper little rat. She hops in my hand and cuddles with me. She is also starting to bite, so that sucks. But... yep. I love hearing about other people in the same rat/ mice boat.

That's exactly what they told me. If the pup wasn't eaten I should kill and freeze it. I couldn't bring myself to do that. I'm loving hearing everybody's stories. Glad I started the thread and get to see all these adorable saved babies :)

I'm recently restarting my keeping of snakes and in the past I had no problem buying a live mouse or rat, taking it home and whacking it against a table or with a heavy spoon to stun or kill it. I just recently acquired a baby Ball Python and his first feeding was this past sunday. I told the guy at the pet store to pick me a small mouse. It was all brown. After he was boxed up I asked about frozen and was told that they sell individually packaged frozen mice of every size (petco). I decided to give the frozen mouse a try and put the little brown guy back in the cage. My baby Ball Python took the frozen thawed mouse so I'll be going that route from here on. I must be getting soft in my old age.

We had a bitter cold snap last night. That little gal came out of hiding and the cats found her. I took it away from them and obviously stuck it in a box. I fully intend on letting it go again but in the short term-

I don't know what happened to my brain with that. The cats kill mice all the time - it's what they're here for, in part. The dogs kill and eat rodents of all sorts. Obviously the snakes do.

But, well. It wasn't happening last night.

Yup! I bought a proven male/female pair of rats (only one snake), and they still had one GORGEUS pup out of their last litter so I took her home too. She is SO friendly and my son loves her so she's sticking around =) I may make her my new doe eventually...the female I have now is...hormonal lol

I bought a small colony. One female had pinks, another had pups. I fed off the pups, and of the pinks this one male was all black except for his feet and a rectangle shape that went across his eye (white). I kept him as my next male, needed two. My wife just found one she fell in love with that has a black spot at the base of it's tail (boy). I told if she picked anymore they had to be girls until the racks are full. I may have to add another rack though, cause I know how my wife is....:mouse2::mouse2::mouse2::mouse2:

My BP hasn't been eating in 3 weeks. Usually, I'd go back to the store to give them the mouse back. But my mom suggested having a little box for them in case my snake keeps refusing to eat. So I bought one and food..
Yesterday was supposed to be feeding day. I bought 2 mice, my snake refused them again. So they're now living in their little box together until I don't know when :P
I'm still planning on giving them as preys though.. But who knows.. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...39222d78e6.jpg

I am actually going out and buying pet mice this weekend.

Not breeders. Pets. Watching that little live mouse bop around it's tiny box was the most cheerful, entertaining thing ever. It really brightened my day and my mood.

So. Yeah. My 'no pet rodents while owning snakes' thing is going down the tubes.

They really are a blast to watch. I have enjoyed looking at my rat babies when they play fight and well... when they do ANYTHING :P I never thought of myself as a rat person until I bottle fed my first one. Love them now and there is no going back.

Yep, it happened to me. I got this guy for my larger BP Conan and he didn't want anything to do with him. I think due to shedding. But lucky for little man he gets to live. I set him up a home and he has a great little personality.
