I have 2 Pieds and 2 Albinos out on loan right now. So yeah, it happens all the time.

To make the homozygous of any morph takes a while; especially for recessive genes where the hets aren't visible. If you don't have much money, buy a 100% het pied male, and spend the 4-6 years it will take. If you can save up the money, buy some het females and save your self a year or two. If you are just looking to produce a single pied, buy a single 100% het female. Or, if you have the space and the rats buy 3 or more 50% het females for about the same price. Your odds are good that at least one of them will be het, and if others are you'll make a lot more cash. At the least, the 50% females that won't prove out for you will have 50% offspring from your male's genes. Anyway you look at it though, it will take money, time, and work. If it were that easy to make recessive morphs from hets, they'd be worth a lot more.

$1,650 for a 1.1 pair of 100% het pieds which is pretty reasonable when you think about it... The 2-3 years you'll save is well worth the price difference (assuming you are earning some income... if not, it's a good time of year to shovel some driveways :P)
