y dont u use magazines?I tear out pages and put two layers on the glass. It works.i can easliy keep temps up to 88 like that

You might want to lessen the gap between the tank and your heating pad. It'll probably take some fiddiling with, but you should be able to get the temps up.

The heating pad is pretty much as close to the tank as it can get without the tank being directly on top of it... but don't worry, I got the temperature to 85.. Is that a good constant temperature to keep it at?
bpkid, I like my tank to look nice so I use bark, that's the only reason I don't use newspaper or paper towels.

Hey mechanic, some have found that with some of the human heating pads, they were wired backwards. Meaning: low=high and high=low. Might want to just fiddle with it some more and let the heat get situated in the tank for a few hours before really trying to measure it. Just give it a little while, it'll be alright :)

Good point! I totally forgot about that, and i even have one that is wired backwards ;). I'd do what Becky said and double check your heating pad first.

I hear you on that one. My life consists of going to school, my rats and my boyfriend. Not a whole lot goin' on :) I doubt many of us have a life, we are a very infatuated group ;)
