Re: Meet MOJO
Awesome shots! I would have more of Zillo but she is so tiny and we haven't had her a week yet, she gets scared when we take her out and strikes at who ever isn't holding her. I think LLL had her hatch date in the first week of august. I am gonna let her get a mouse in her this weekend and then try to handle her for 5 minutes or so a couple of days later. She really seems to dislike my hair (its really long)... She has struck at it a few times now when I turn around.

Re: Meet MOJO
Yeah....but my first was 9 months old when I got her. No nippyness, no skittishness, never missed a feeding And was already on small adult mice almost to rat pups. Now I know she can handle even a very very large rat pup...probably the next size up. I am ordering bulk food for them tomorrow. I just don't want to order 25 of the wrong thing ya know?

Oh yea I completely understand. I've got 4, my first normal girl is on lrg mice (she refuses to switch to rats)and she was never nippy, second normal girl is on live small mice(she refuses f/t) was never nippy, my pinstripe female and the mojave male are both on f/t hoppers she's about 3 months and was never nippy either, but today when I talked to breeder he said lil MOJO was only about a month old when I got him so he's still afraid of anything coming or going lol. Do u have a snake hook? I am working on hook training him so that when I reach in I'm not dinner lol. I fed today so I have another 2 days before handling again but I plan to work with him lots to hopefully get him out of trying to bite me every time I get him out. He's so skiddish that when he's out if I move the opposite hand I'm holding him in he will coil up ready to strike it. He's a feisty lil sucker lol.

Re: Meet MOJO
I don't have a hook ATM...I have been tossing the idea around but my wife likes to tease me about it. In her words, I can face wild game, repair small engines, free climb 20m rock faces, and other amateur feats of sophomoric masculine pomposity but a 80 gram, nonvenomous snake requires an elongated tool. She might know me too well. Is hook usage considered a good idea? Also, does anyone happen to use arctic mice brand frozen feeders? I ask because is am getting ready to order bulk from a website and I want to ensure that the size I order is the same as i usually see in the stores. A pack of 50 feeders that are way off in size is a waste I can't justify to my very Irish and redheaded wife.

I honestly read on here in other people's threads about the hook training. From what I've read most do the same thing each time they go to get the snake out (so for instance in my case, I lightly tap him on the head one time then reach in, that usually gets him out of strike position, and what I've read has said to stay consistent with that same motion each time) I'm hoping he will grow out of the nippy-ness soon since he's the only one I use the hook with.
I have in fact used the artic mice (I bought them from petsmart before I found my local guy) they tend to be the same size as what you would normally get, and of course just like anywhere else, you have some smaller some a little larger. But you may want to Google about artic mice I heard they had a recall of some sort, so I'd definitely check into that. (Again I'm not 100% if that's been recent or months ago, none the less better to check than have something happen to your babies)

Re: Meet MOJO
Thank you! Yes Arctic Mice did have a major recall. It was several months ago and they have changed their process now. Seems that their 3rd party distribution wasn't refrigerating properly. Salmonella became a huge issue. Now they use photo-irradiation before, during, and after the freeze process. That isn't why I'm changing though. Arctic Mice cost over $2.00 each no matter what size you buy. Fek that!!! The wholesaler I'm gonna order from is only about 50¢ per hopper and about 75¢ per weaned rat. At that price shipping is way more expensive than the feeders are. So I got permission to bulk order. $20 - $30 per month for Arctic Mice is way more than $100 - $120 per year for bulk orders.

Oh yea I know, before I found the guy I get mine from I was buying artic from petsmart 12$ for 4 large mice, ridiculous when just Tuesday I bought all 3 of mine that take f/t mice for under 15$ and that will last them this month.
