Your stun gun method is stupid in my opinion.

OMG how can you call me stupid.... Stun gun many people can buy and use.A gas chamber.... lethal gas anyone else wonna comment? on his idea

The gas is carbon dioxide, generally provided through paintball supplies or dry ice sublimation, and it provides a quick, painless death if done properly. I think Blink's wording was a bit harsh, but stun gun is certainly a more painful method for the rodent.

I am really starting to think we need some kind of filter or division between the different feeding method prefered people here! Everytime it comes up, somebody is either getting pissed off, or ON! How about if you don't have something nice, or constructive even, to say, Keep quiet!

I really don't think that's necessary. The irritation in this thread was over prey-killing methods and/or wording of response, not over live vs. dead prey. How about we don't bring up the relative merits of live vs. dead in threads that aren't about anything related (such as how to kill, where to buy, what the best prey size is, etc.) or bait by referring to previous disagreements?

Agreed. Sometimes Mama had the right idea.

I remember someone way back said that they just put the mice on the side of the counter top and berate them untill they leap. That sounds like the best idea to me.

Stunning the rodent with a stun gun is a particullarly cruel practice. While the voltage creates temporary, and generally harmless, nervous drisruption in humans it will do significantly more damage to a rodent. The animals internal organs can actually burn and causes great suffering (not unlike when a human is struck by lightning) while it lays paralyzed (and not necessarily unconscious). The best method of rodent euthansia is inded a CO2 chamber. They are easy to make and kill the rodents quickly (if done correctly) and painlessly. here's a couple links...

I think that stunning the rodent, by any means, is just plain cruel. When the time comes to feed the rats I have just bred, to my snakes, I plan on using the CO2. I have been using the "whack" method, but it is not 100% foolproof, and I do not want to be the one to cause undue suffering on any animal.
There are laws against abusing animals. I would think that zapping a rat with a stun gun would constitute animal abuse to a logical person. And shooting them out of a paintball gun?! If this keeps up, it could give us herp keepers an undeserved title as rodent abusers. Not to sound like a whiny animal-rights activist, but, come on...

Pix to associate words with names!
oh yeah i forgot about the paintball gun comment...unless you're under age 6 there's no excuse for that kind of disrespect for life. We keep snakes (and cats and dogs) as pets because we value the beauty of life and strive to be good guardians. If we justify the need to take lives for food we do so only with the care and respect that they deserve.
