    When I had a glass enclosure and needed a low wattage heat lamp to keep up the ambients (I used a 50W red bulb day and night, on a 15 gal. aquarium - you can also use a straight up heat lamp with no light) I had the lamp kind of in the middle but slightly more to the warm side, where the UTH was.

    You need to have a place where the snake can be free of heat sources (or rather, about 78-80F INCLUDING the vive floor). Too much heat makes for an upset snake...

    I've had this set up for as long as I've had him, so I don't know why it would just start bothering him now.
    Anyway, thank you everyone for your help! I'll adjust some things and possibly buy a temp gun and gram scale, and hopefully things will get better!

    Gram scale is $20-25 at WalMart or Target. Get one that's low, with a wide, flat pan, as it'll be more stable when you use it to weigh a wiggly 2000 gram girl.

    An IR thermometer is about $12-15, IIRC temp guns are a bit more expensive.
