Feeding ?

I agree with Deborah, no need to weigh every time. I have never weighed a rodent. You can judge them visually. I would think a snake that size could take rat pups, and they are more nutritious than mice.

I weigh the snake for my own purposes, I however don't weigh her prey. Currently I am unable to get rat pups (my only source so far is petsmart) but am looking to find a breeder somewhere close by to me to get rat pups. So for now I have medium and large mice. I was just showing her weight gain since my first post in this thread. She now has her own thread lol.

Ok guys, since u gave me such great answers before regarding my first baby and I don't feel like making a new thread is necessary since I have this one already.
So anyways, I've gotten a new baby pastel who is closing in on 1 solid month of not eating. what do I do? When should I start to get concerned?

I'm not experienced by any means, but if you do end up force feeding or assist feeding, a lot of the guys up near me in Vancouver use this method if they have to resort to abnormal feeding methods (its much less stressful for the snake). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKziwzTB-Jk

thanks! I have looked up the forced feeding and really don't want to go that route, I'm scared to death of hurting it!

Also, would they refuse to eat if prey is too small?

Hmm, it depends. All of my snakes except one have gone on a good food strike at one point (the longest being 6 months+) but after a few assist feedings, they usually go back on feed. I haven't had a problem with prey size but then again most of my animals are adults so they're on rats or occasionally a few adult mice if they get picky.

It almost always helps if you improve/change up enclosure conditions. Hatchlings feel very secure in smaller tubs (a good example is the grey ARS 10 series). Darker, humid setups are best and make sure they have a good size water bowl.
