I'm like 6 hours away. I'll have to come down sometime in the future. I'm just worried with the new laws that in the future it's going to be extremely hard to find burmese pythons, let alone a breeder.

Don't sweat it too much yet. There are people fighting for our rights. But know what you are getting yourself into. These are very large snakes and they may be fine one moment or a completely different snake the next. Not trying to scare you or nothing. I personally love Burms. I just don't have the space or the will to kill a rabbit :-(

My dad had one before I was born. He said it was a male but at 16ft 150lbs I think it was a female. But yeah I know they're big powerful animals and you never can get complacent with them. I was just testing the waters seeing if there was actually any breeders in ohio before I actually consider getting one.

Best bet is there at the show. If not I think there is one in Columbus too. However I am unaware of what species they have there..... on a side note if you have pics of the snake your dad had I would love to see them. If I had the space I would probably own one. I think with time I could manage possibly killing rabbits for it but, that would be the only drawback for me.

Next time I see him I will ask. I haven't actually seen it either. Said he used to take naps and go swimming with it. Too bad he isn't much of a snake person nowadays.

I think the guy that is being referred to is Deron Detwiler. You can check out his Facebook page by searching for Detwiler's Quality Constrictors. He breeds both retics and burms. Great guy and even better animals.

Keep in mind, in Ohio, any snake 12' or larger requires a yearly $150 permit and insurance /bond between $100k-500k.

I would get in contact with ohio fish and wildlife. Not really sure. I am starting to wonder the same thing though since I got a red tail. I know they normally don't get that big but I have read rumors of them getting 12 and 13. But I can't find anything to support that. I'm sure I have nothing to worry about. Now with a Burm that's a different story.
