Re: Pie Bald + Normal.
Not at all mate, we all started off at the same point. No one is born with knowledge of snake morphs :) Enjoy discovering them!

a genetics calculator can be helpful, to play around and get a feel for it.

if you later bred piebald to het piebald, you get more piebalds and het piebalds. and when you breed your piebald to a het piebald that has extra genes, like pastel or spider, or even a bumble bee het piebald, you can get piebalds with extra genes.
like this:

one way to simplify it: to combine different recessives or to combine a recessive with something else takes at least two generations. dominant and codominant genes can be combined in one generation, by just breeding them to each other. and piebald is recessive, spider is dominant, and pastel is codominant.

This is a three gene pair problem.
Bumblebee:
gene pair 1 = spider mutant gene paired with normal gene
gene pair 2 = pastel mutant gene paired with normal gene
gene pair 3 = two normal genes
Piebald:
gene pair 1 = two normal genes
gene pair 2 = two normal genes
gene pair 3 = two piebald genes
By the way, a normal gene is the most common gene in that gene pair in the snakes in the wild. The normal gene in gene pair 1 is not the same gene as the normal gene in gene pair 2 or gene pair 3.
Spider x piebald -->
1/4 normal
1/4 spider
1/4 pastel
1/4 spider pastel (AKA bumblebee)
And all babies are het piebald.
Fractions are the expected results. Actual results may vary.
