At this point I no more associate a frozen/thawed rat with the living thing than I associate a package of ground beef with a cow. I recognize that they're the same animal, and the f/t have faces and all but. They're just meat.

Not sure if that makes me callous or not, but it is what it is.

and I think I'll probably get another pair of rats in the next few months.

I think the ground beef/cow analogy was a great one, an eye opener. I actually get sad when I get the frozen turkey ready for the oven (grabbing the neck with tongs and heaving it in the garbage really fast drives me nutso but other than that I feel a little sad for the poor turkey) but yes, it is meat. I watched a video on youtube where a girl was demonstrating how to thaw then feed the mice to her snake, the poor little corpses lined up on her counter just made me sad for the poor little dudes. But yes, snakes have to eat too. I grew up on a farm for goodness sakes you think that would harden me up a little but I think it had the opposite effect. :(

On a happier note it looks like we may be getting our new ratty boys in a couple of weeks! I decided the cuddly males won out over the active females.
