That is the same question I was thinking, then I was thinking why betadine is so expensive. $20.00 for 8oz, WOW! But well worth it if the rot is cleared, because I love my baby already!

according to this, there also are different brands called wokadine, polydine and ZOVI, they are all similar to betadine.

having some is a good idea, not only for your reptiles, its also perfect for use on humans to disinfect wounds. so you should have that or something comparable at home anyway, so that you can disinfect any small wounds or cuts you get. the article also says that it is "the universally preferred iodine antiseptic".

    its really good stuff.

    Quote:

PVP-I has found broad application in medicine as a surgical scrub; for pre- and post-operative skin cleansing; for the treatment and prevention of infections in wounds, ulcers, cuts and burns; for the treatment of infections in decubitus ulcers and stasis ulcers; in gynecology for vaginitis associated with candidal, trichomonal or mixed infections. For these purposes PVP-I has been formulated at concentrations of 7.5–10.0% in solution, spray, surgical scrub, ointment, and swab dosage forms
its not surprising that it also works on scale rot in reptiles ^^

maybe instead of a full bath, or in combination with a bath, you could also swab some directly on the affected spots.

You can also look for a store brand to save money - I know Walmart has a store brand of it. It's like $6 or $7 for 8 oz.

The cheaper brand I believe has antiseptic in it and I thought I read somewhere that was not good for snakes. Has anyone else heard this?

I want to thank everyone for helping me get my baby back to perfect health :)

you just need to make sure that whatever you buy has exactly the right ingredients, and nothing else in it.

it should only contain the polyvinylpyrrolidone + iodine complex and water.
