    Sponge is a cool idea. Another thing I did when I had humidity problems is when they start to turn dark and lose their shine (happens before a shed) I would put a handful of damp but not dripping sphagnum moss in the hide with the snake. It holds humidity, resists mold well, and gives the snake something to rub on when it sheds.

    Sponges are breeding grounds for bacteria. I wouldn't use them in an enclosure.
