I won't name names, but I think there's are people in the rat world afraid of "losing business" if any one except their closest friends were breeding. There are also very strong opinions about the "right" way or reasons to breed, and nothing can change those opinions. There are some that go so far as to practically declare any one who doesn't have every single breeding animal certified by a vet before every pairing, didn't necropsy every single animal ever produced by a trained vet who specializes in rats, doesn't spend hundreds in very care every month (and doesn't believe someone may not need to spend that much), and more, as unethical, disreputable, and irresponsible. There are definitely some practices that for that bill, but then there are other things that are simply a matter of opinion and perspective.
Trust me, what you see on the forums is not even the half of how bad it gets. When you really get in deep, and have the "in" with the "big names" it gets beyond ugly, to flat out back stabbing with one hand while smiling and shaking with the other hand.
