Hmm, I had no idea that burms ate other snake species, very interesting. I really dont have a problem with people using animals as feeders "obviously" but this seems like it was a very slow drawn out process and definitely not up to our humane standards in captivity.

Am I the only one that thinks this is photoshopped? A ball python just lets another snake swallow it tail-first, with no coiling? And the first pic looks like it is being swallowed head-first, but then the BP is yawning or swallowing something else in pic #2?

Not sure if it is photochopped or not, but it does look a little funky. It was posted 2-3 months back either here or on facebook. Don't remember which, probably FB.

I've seen live snakes used as feeders. I can tell you 100% that a live snake would not just lay still and allow its self to be swallowed, it would be tightly coiled around that Burms head. Also since Burms don't typically eat snakes the only way I can see this realistically happening is if both animals grabbed opposite ends of the same rodent. And if that was the case the ball would have been swallowed head first. I would agree that this photo is likely doctored.

This has been going around on Tumblr, my friend asked me about it on Monday night. I didn't know what to tell her.

I'm calling shenanigans. For 2 reasons...
First of all, that burm just looks wrong. I can't explain it, but in the first picture especially, there's something "off" about it. The best way I can explain it is that I feel like I'm looking at a puppet.
Second, and maybe more importantly, my mind simply refuses to accept the possibility that someone actually did this. If it were real, I would feel compelled to track down the parties responsible and inflict excruciatingly painful, yet non-lethal injuries upon them.

While I can't speak to the authenticity of the photographs - someone better with photo editors can figure that out - I'm guessing that you missed the fecal-storm that erupted over on the Fauna BOI when the owner of one of the giant snakes had a puppy get too close to it, the inevitable happened, and the owner's reaction was to document the sad event in pictures, which were subsequently posted on Facebook. So yes, people really are that stupid.

The ball doesn't look alive imo. They don't just open their mouths like that whether they're scared, hurt, or wanting to get away. However I've seen dead BPs with that expression. Not to mention the absence of the balling up defense mechanism?

I personally don't mind snakes being used as feeders. Most are f/t anyway. Its no different from us feeding off rats. And some species of snakes, like King Cobras, have to eat other snakes to thrive. Though I do acknowledge that Burms aren't snake eaters.

However, this picture, whether real or fake, was clearly done out of spite. I don't know how many of you are outside the ball community, but not very many people who keep other species like ball pythons. And whenever I do see a feeder ball picture, tons of people seem to be 'happy' and say dumb stuff like 'finally a purpose for a useless ball'.
No respect what so ever. I appreciate and respect my feeder rats for keeping my snakes healthy and alive. I think feeder snakes should be given the same respect.
