    How long have you had them? It could take as long as 1-2 months for new rats to settle down and start breeding in a new environment.

    How old are they?

    They are about 5 months old, and the male doesn't make any advances on her, Ill try the hide to see what happens, thank you!

    when very cold or very hot they stop breeding

    Sounds like everything is right. Before giving up, I'd try getting a second male and second female, split your current rats up and keep the girls together and the boys together (you'll have to be careful with introductions so they don't start fighting). Give them a few weeks to settle in, the try again. For more assured success, start watching your female(s) daily for signs of heat. When she's in heat, pair her with the male and they should get right to it.
