Plus I think mine is proof that they don't eat just once a week. Mine will eat everyday if I let him haha.
Many snakes are opportunistic feeders. And as such will eat far more than they need. That is handy in the wild where they don't know when or where their next meal will be.
If you want consistent growth without risking the health of your BP, I would suggest trying rats that are 10-15% the weight of your snake every 5-7 days as a juvie and ending up around 10-14 days as an adult.
Some snakes will hit a wall on feeding and just stop for a bit while others won't.
My BP's have ranged from 600 to 1100 grams at 1 year. And, now they are so sure of themselves weighing is a pain because they would like to slither out of the container and explore rather than ball up and try to hide in the container.
Re: How big did your BP's grow their 1st year?
My good eaters range from 500-1000g their first year. So growing 50-100g per month.
My bad eaters range around 300-400g by their first year.
I had a pair of girls born within days of each other. Both were excellent eaters and fed on the same sized prey once a week. One girl hit 1000g before her first birthday. She grew over 1000g in her second year as well. The other girl was around 500-600g by her first birthday.

So they ate the same but one grew better? That's interesting. I assumed growth was more dependent on how much they ate, but I guess genetics must play a big role too, since I assume husbandry was also the same for the 2.

Correct. Food and environment were the same. The difference is just individual metabolism and genetics.

I have one from this year that is growing very fast. She hatched on 4/1/13. She is currently 850 grams. By far, she is the best eater I have had.
