Use food dye. Totally non-toxic and probably the easiest to wash off.

What I would do is dip your snake in a food dye bowl, then put her on a large piece of white paper and there you have it! Then just was her off and call it a day.

Interesting ideas, I'm going to try to figure out what I'm going with tonight. The project is due Thurday; I was going to use these couple of days to plan then work on it up til then. I don't know if the mailing big would work in time, though I do appreciate everyone who offered their skins (:

For my honors art appreciation class in college, my final exam is to make a personal collage about me, without being pictures of me. Naturally, I'm including a nice big reptile section. Now, I would love to tack on one of Rosca's [first snake, my big girl] skins to the board, but the heifer always rips hers, and won't be shedding again in time. Is there any sort of non-toxic, safe ink / paint or something I can put on her belly and get kind of an "ink stamp" to show size, and then wash off? Or, do you have alternative ideas? If I can't do it it's fine, but I'm just brainstorming for my project.

Why not Food Coloring? Its non-toxic, washable, and should be safe as can be i'd imagine no?

I wouldn't use food colouring. That stuff will stain whatever your gal wiggles on, including the carpet or counter if she gets away while you're "stamping" her.

At the zoo we use non-toxic children's paint, dip their bellies into it, then let them slither around on a large piece of paper. If you use two primary colours, like red on the first half of her belly and yellow on the second, you'll get some really cool colour mixing effects.

The fun part will be wrestling her down into submission while I paint her up :P Oh, also, I'm going to TRY to use tissue paper to make a textured 3-D pop-up section of Dippy's tail. (: I'll post it on here when I finish the whole thing and give y'all a sum-up of my presentation. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I'm hitting the craft store tomorrow!

My collage is not done, but I did what I could for my "snake stamp" today... I used nontoxic children's washable finger paint... and naturally she did NOT stay still at any time! I did what I could, take 2 I got a better imprint so now I'm using the back of the posterboard (:

Step one: Dexter my room. [please watch that series if you don't get it.]

    Step Two: Secure your participant.

Step Three: Attempt to give snake belly paint job despite slithering and doubling over on herself.

Step Four: Let her botch the first side, flip it over and hope for better.
Step Five: Try to wait until she's in a good enough position, then quickly stamp her down and lift.

Step Six: Wash snake in sink, pat dry, apologize repeatedly. Return to enclosure.
Step Seven: admire your hand(less) work.

I'm half tempted to try "snake painting" now. Lol. Would be cool to get a really great print.
