Hey, you never know Jennifer, you could breed two hets and end up with all albino offspring. It's not any more unlikely than ending up with all normal offspring. :) 21 females is quite a crowd! I don't suppose you'd post a pic or two of your herp room? I take it your female pastel should be big enough for the '05 breeding season, and that's why you're hoping for supers then? Sounds like you should have an amazing year for clutches, with up to 30 or so het hypo babies and 90 or so pastels. That ought to enable you to recoup your investment in the first year and make a tidy profit, too.

That's my plan. :) I've been taking pictures all morning, so here ya go, this is a picture of my "herp room", lol. It consists of 4 Animal Plastics racks. The rack on the far right is empty, just awaiting the hatchlings from this clutch. :) There are some rubbermaids on top of the racks that are covered by towels. Those are for my more shy ball pythons (whether or not they need the privacy, they are spoiled).. lol..

Your absolutely right about the hets. I was just figuring in my luck, lol.
And the female pastel should be big enough by breeding season '06, sorry. I meant pastels in '05 and possibly supers in '06. The pastels are all '04's, but the males will be no problem to get up to size *knocks on wood*.

Congrats and good luck next year :D

I see you keep your yellow container of herpicide handy ;)
Nice setup - which model rack or size sterelite is that - and do you house everything there or just what you currently are gearing to breed? All BPs or mixed?
-
That herpicide sure does come in handy, lol.... ;)
All those racks are model 1756(7); the 32-qt sterilites. There are only ball pythons being housed in those racks. On the other side of the room I have 2 20-gallon aquariums housing a pair of Tiger rattlesnakes, and like I said, there are other ball pythons on top of the racks that you can't see. But basically, everything in those racks I am planning on breeding. I am getting 1.2 California kingsnakes just for the fun of it because I love them, but they are probably going to be housed in aquariums. Haven't decided yet. :)

I think we may have meant the same thing about the years, because to me, breeding season '05 results in clutches hatching in '06. Supers will be very exciting, even with the ebony and others that are still pretty much brand new. Maybe by '06 or '07 you can produce some of my nearly-favorite pastel ghosts.
I have lots of space now in my "herp room" where my snakes are housed and would love to be able to take advantage of it with some racks and doing some hobbyist-level breeding -- nothing too large scale just yet. Thanks for the pic of your setup. It looks very space-efficient. My biggest ball is still housed in an aquarium, and I really need to get that replaced with a better setup. If she's a female (still unprobed), I could breed next season and produce my first clutch as you've done this year. :)

Wow, well, best of luck to you. How big is s/he?

Pine and Bp's
Thanks, all the luck I really need is for her to turn out female and fertile, I think. :) S/he's about 5 years old, 43" long, and a couple of thousand grams (I need to re-weigh, as I haven't in a couple months since bumping up her prey size). If s/he's female, I'll want to bulk her up a bit over the next few months so that breeding won't take too much out of her, but s/he's got a good starting point.
