Velox; Curious about RI.

Hes beyond ready for hoppers, he should be on at least small mice or weanling rats.
Mine is on adult mice every 5 days.... now switching to rats.

I've always been told that I shouldn't feed him things larger than he is wide. When he lays out, he's definitely not much wider than a hopper. Perhaps I'm wrong? Should he be on things a bit larger than he is? I know they can stretch, but I always thought that he should be fed things his size...

Should I be using his largest coiled up size, or his laid out size?

Don't worry, the food item should leave a noticeable lump I'm his stomach.
Prey size should be equal to or a lil larger than the widest part of his girth. Hatchling ball pythons start off on mouse hoppers or rat pups.
So at 4 months old... he should easily take a small mouse or rat pup

Oh bugger, I feel terrible then, I've been feeding him too small. No wonder he seems a bit 'small'! I'll get a small mouse and a rat pup tomorrow, and see how he feels about the rat pup when it's time for feeding. (I understand that he might be confused, so to speak, about the mouse to rat transition (or just displeased, haha))

On another note, if you got a chance to see the video, is his breathing 'normal' for a slightly stressed (I'm certain he heard me approach) Ball?

Hrm, she's definitely a LOT bigger, more than I would think gender would account for. I'm wondering if the breeder wasn't feeding properly, now. I'm almost surprised that he's NOT very sick.

Though, again, I wonder if you had a chance to see his breathing in the video?

Yes it looks fine, I would get different hides though, he may feel more secure

How long have you had him? Did you ask what and how often they were feeding?

Roughly a month, more accurately four feeds.

I was told that he had last eaten a fuzzy, and then he was eating every 5-6 days, depending on his 'mood'. I've found, however, that he's more than willing to eat every 5 days.

Anyhow just up the size of his prey item and continue every 5 days. He'll catch up in no time.
He'll be fine :)
