:) Thanks for the nice words to all of you! I called her Charlize and she's amazingly sweet, today i'll feed her for the first time, hopefully she'll eat without any problems.
She's "just" a normal but I fell in love with her as soon as i saw her, i really like the light brown tint she has on her, The pics I put don't do her justice since my iphone camera is faulty.. i'll post better pictures as soon as I get hold of a working camera!

Normal females are always good to have around. In the future should you want to try your hand at breeding...get a single or double gene male and that female will hopefully plug those genes into some eggs and make you some babies!

It was these "normal" ball pythons that started the hobby...it wasn't until people started taking notice of some unusual patterns and breeding them out and "proving them" did we get some of the "pinstripes" and such you mention. Those names are just the names given to the specific gene that a snake has. Some combinations of genes have special nicknames like

    Pastel + Spider = Bumblebee
    Pastel + Cinnamom = Pewter

I was in your shoes a couple years back...went to an expo knowing I wanted a ball python but knew NOTHING about genetics. I saw this little yellow ball python for sale at a breeders table and I bought it. It was labeled "Pastel"

Well. fast forward a couple years. That girl just laid eggs for me a few weeks back and are expected to hatch around Oct 9th!

You can always check out the gene calculator at worldofballpythons to explore different genes and even see what happens when you mix and match 2..3..4..even 5 genes!

Many combinations are yet to be done and as it seems. If you are the first to produce something...you get to nickname it! I would think that would be super fun to do!
