Re: Anyone had a hatchling do this?
A close friend of mine hatched out a little pied male who did that. I went over to take a look at him because she was concerned. The issue corrected itself after a day or two. He was fine!

I'm sure the baby will start acting normally in 24-48 hours

I've had one do this right about after getting out of his egg .. he had the tongues sticking out of his mouth for no reason :D was not flickering it at all .. it was like that for about an hour, then he put it back in it's mouth .. he shed, fed normally after and I haven't seen it occur again :D - in other words a completely healthy snake

Thanks everyone, he is still sticking it out this morning, but tries to flick it. I cleaned the tub and changed the paper towels to see if that helps. It was really gooey in there.

if it flickered before, i guess it will be fine.

maybe hatchlings just need to figure out what it is good for :)

it takes puppies quite a while to open their eyes, and even longer to figure out that their sense of smell works best when they put their nose close to the ground and repeatedly inhale and exhale :D maybe its similar with BPs and tongue flickering, eventually they figure it out and do the tongue flickering whenever they want to smell something.

I know this doesn't help, but at least it's adorable... :)

We haven't had a BP baby do this yet, but we have had a boa with a tongue issue like this. She'd flick it, and then it'd stick half way out of her mouth. However, like 2 days later, she was flicking it normally. Just give it a few days and it might correct itself. Good luck with the babies!

I have not had a hatchling do this but I have seen a couple of my adults do this while they were drinking water. he looks healthy though i wouldn't worry to much about it.
