    Is there a way to hookup an exhaust fan pull air from the room out to the window? hook it up to a timer where is sucks the air for maybe 10 minutes every two hours... this may have less impact on the room temp and allow stagnant air to be replaced...

    I agree with most of the suggestions above. Clean at least once every 5 to 7 days, an exhaust fan in the window(they are not to pricey and really help), and in addition to the aspen shavings we put some equine pellets in the tubs to absorb the extra materials. Really works well for us. Good luck!

    Thanks to everybody for all the advice! I've tried the vanilla extract and even in a day or two, I've noticed a difference, and I will definitely see about the pine shavings. And I will keep doing my once a week clean for everyone and hopefully those changes will help. I want my rats to have the best lives possible until their time is up, and I just want to be sure I'm doing right by them!
