    I'm going to have to side with those are not mites. Those are either smudges or just part of the snakes coloring. I freak out every now and then when I check my snakes out daily and I see those kind of black freckled dots. Those aren't mites lol. I could be wrong but it looks as though his belly is kinda pink, maybe hanging out in the water because he is going into shed??

    There is nothing in either of those pictures that look like mites. Those actually just look like bits of pigment on the snake itself. As some have said before, mites are round dots that move. The paper towels are good, as you can see them on there (like bits of pepper). You can sometimes find them dead in the water bowl as well.

    One thing I like to do when I'm checking for mites is to dampen a paper towel, then let the snake run through my hand while wiping them firmly with the towel, then looking for specks.
