Well they pick up vibrations awful fast!

It is NOT the water from the spray bottle causing my Ball to recoil. He is on the other side of the cage. And, it is Immediate!

Also, he moves just as I open the door, which makes a fairly loud sound- even though from a distance.

If the door is already open I can walk right up to cage at times and he is undisturbed- until I speak to him.

They may not have auditory nerves, but they "hear" via vibrations through their tummys on the ground and their pits and other bone structures in their skulls.

Just how deaf folks can hear/feel vibrations through their mastoid bones in the skull and feel vibes with feet and body.

Does Your Snake HATE The Spray Bottle?
2 out of 3 of my snakes will actually come out of their hides when I am done spraying down their tanks and move about "smelling" at the water droplets on the sides with their tounge on the tank for a little and after investigating they go back in their hides. It is the only time I really see them besides feeding day!

Hmm... my male BP recoils if spray gets on him, and my female does a little bit too but not as much. I mostly focus on spraying the substrate and the air/walls of their enclosure so it gets a humid feel throughout... I feel safe enough to place my spray bottle on the floor of both of their cages and spray, so I don't have to hold it up xD They don't see it as prey fortunately

Mine hates it too! I took her out today to see if she had shed yet, and she hadn't, so I put her back and she was slowing sliding back into her hide. Then I started misting and she shot into her hide so fast, opps, I guess I should have waited, I don't want her to see me as a threat or anything.

I don't think this will affect your relationship with your snake/her trust towards you, she probably didn't even connect that it was you who was causing the spray. I hope this isn't offensive to anyone, but I'm not even sure if snakes can tell humans apart very well if at all (PLEASE tell me if I'm wrong I'm not trying to spread false info)... it's more like snakes can tell if a person is confidently, comfortably handling them vs. handling them in a way that scares or hurts them

Tali isn't crazy about it. If she's out when I spray, she recoils and zooms into the nearest hide and peeks out.

My balls seem to hate it, but my Rufous Beaked aren't bothered by it unless it hits them directly. Though my little one will actually come to me while I spray. I have a video of it somewhere.

My ball hates it with a passion, but my corn will come out and bask while I'm spraying.

I try to avoid spraying my BP's directly as they obviously don't like it. OTOH my BRB's all love to be misted, and the BCI's don't seem to care either way.
