    new owner!!!!
It seems to me that you didnt do alot of research before buying your snake. If you did you would know that you needed a heat lamp and an undertank heater and you would also know that you need to take your snake to the vet to see if it is a boy or a girl. I am no snake expert but i know that much, good luck.

Congrats on inheriting a bp! There's lots of great info on this site, a little digging will give you plenty of reading material. First I suggest the bp care sheet. It'll answer alot of your questions right away.
As far as a lamp, forget petco if you can, you can probably get cheaper stuff at walmart and hardware stores. You'll probably want a clip lamp.....it's stainless steel and will reflect the heat right into the tank from above. For a bulb you may need petco to find a red uv bulb. You can leave this on 24/7 and no harm done to the psyche of your new buddy. If you're using a glass tank, heat and humidity will be big issues so go to forums, check out the husbandry section in the bp section.........you'll see tons of the same questions about these issues. Some will have pics which helps even more. Speaking of pics, lots of members have links to thier pics in their sigs (like mine). You can see how some have thier setups and get an idea of what goes where.
    Quick shopping list:
    Clamp lite
    uv bulb or ceramic heater
    heat pad
dimmer switches or rheostats for all heat emmiting sources.(this is so you can turn things down but not off it temps get too high)
    hygrometer (measures humidity)
digital thermometer..sometimes they come combined with hygrometer (15 bucks at walmart....lots of us have that one) with probe wire. set it down by the ground on cool side in the tank and run the wire to the warm side over the pad in the so you know what the belly temp is constantly and no burns will incure.
For substrate I gotta say I recently switched to cypress mulch and my humidity issues are history. They carry HUGE bags at walmart in the lawn and garden center. If you go with this, bake as much as you'll use in the oven at 275 for 40 minutes to kill anything that may be in there and you're good to go.
Don't forget a hide for the warm zone and a hide for the cool zone.......can be anything pretty much as long as it's clean.
Hope any of this ramble helps you out,
Oh yeah, welcome to the site 8)
