Can't tell by your pic, is the grapevine tall enough for her to climb? My jcp loves his branches and spends most of his time hanging around except when he is ready to shed, he goes in his hide. My jcp will only eat f/t rats from his branches as I dangle them in front of him. Btw, great looking girl...

Not really tall enough to climb. I'm going to set something up for her to climb on today or tomorrow

They definitely take advantage of climbing, but it's a myth that they have to. Many breeders keep their carpets in tubs with just substrate and a water bowl and they breed and live long lives. Bob Clark addressed this in Reptiles magazine a couple years back.

So ive had her for a little now and after holding her and watching her ive come to realize theres something a little bit wrong with her. She kind of rolls a little bit and acts a little bit goofy :\ My friend says she may have been dropped or something at one point in her life (not the person I got the snake from.) Now I just tried to feed her and after a few minutes she bites the rat by the side and doesn't really do a good job of coiling it but basically just bite down on the rat while its screaming. Eventually the rat got away and is now sitting in the corner. Any one have any idea what could be going on with her?

Do you know what she was eating before? Some of the snakes I've had in the past that were used to f/t reacted that way to live rats. I've got an Irian Jaya carpet right now that eats f/t mice that reacts that way when I try to get her on rats with live ones. I don't know about the odd behavior. Some snakes act like that when they've been exposed to certain chemicals or exposed to high temps.

I spoke to the guy I got it from and he said she's always been like that since he got her. He got her years ago from someone else. Maybe the prey was too little but I couldn't Imagine what happened with a larger rat. It could have done some damage.

She kind of moves like a spider BP wobble. She grabbed it the second time and kind of pressed her body against the rat and the side of the cage until the rat got away again. The third time she kind of got it and piled her body on top of the rat and suffocated it. Still not a really good coil. I felt terrible for the poor rat. I asked the previous owner and he said she always would coil it for 10 minutes or so and eat it a few minutes later.

Again maybe it was too early to try and feed her after her move or maybe the rat was too small and she couldn't get around it ( wasn't looking like she was trying to hard

Below are pictures of the second and third "coils". Although the third looks decent from the picture the section of the snake on the top is rich after her head And doesn't really ever go around the rat.
