Re: BCI Temperaments and Experiences?
7 feet is the high end for a Male Colombian BCI. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my male gets that large.
As Vin Russo and Gus Rentfro say a lot of 9 and 10 foot boas shrink when the tape measure comes out. Meaning a 7 foot female BCI is plenty huge on it's own and an 8 foot female is quite large.
Males stay generally less thick, and a 7 foot male and an 7 foot female are a lot different when weight is factored in.
Carpet pythons can get long but body mass is nothing like a boa.
Even a retic of similar length is less muscular than a boa. They get their size after they grow really, really long.
BCI dispositions are great. They are curious, much more dialed in than Royal pythons as far as seeming aware and recognizing you.
Expensive Hobby and Evenstar have given great advice.
Here is my advice. Don't go too small! You will handle a boa, love it and then realize size is NOT an issue. Remember, your chances of ANY of the BCI's cracking much over 8 feet is rare. 9 FT females are big 10 footers huge, both rare.
Males average 5-7 feet and 7 is the higher end. Like I said I want mine to get that big. If not I'll have wished I bucked up earlier and bought a female.
They are calm and get more calm. I handle mine daily. He is almost 4 feet long and can still be held easily with one hand.
Don't be nervous you'll do fine.
