They have candle warmers that heat the base of the candle and slowly release the scent. I personally LOVE my plug in wall thingy from bath and body works. They're really good, but can be a bit strong depending on which scent you choose. I have the cashmere glow, and it's absolutely amazing.

My herp room usually smells pretty clean even when it's not. That's probably because I usually have water bowls soaking in a weak bleach solution in the sink and you can often get a faint whiff of bleach in the room. People will often associate the smell of bleach with cleanliness even if it's not necessarily clean. What products does she use when she cleans the house? Take some of whatever it is and pour a little bit into a bowl and leave it in your room. Maybe when she opens the door she'll smell that and associate it with cleanliness? Might be worth a try.

The candle warmer is a great idea! I'll get one of those. She cleans with vinegar, but I don't think want that in my room. I hadn't considered my paper towels taking on the stale scent of snake. I'll make sure to change those out weekly now instead of just when the snakes defacate. These are some good steps I'll enact before making the leap back to a loose substrate. Thanks everyone.
