Chica are you talking about a desk lamp to aim at the cage??? That WILL NOT work, you will need to get an dome fixture and a 50w infared heat bulb. I'm assuming that you are using a screen top, and the dome fixute will just sit flat on top of it at one end of cage.

    For example:

What type of enclosure are you using?
How old and how big is your bp?

Yes and dont buy the dome fixtures at the pet store where they cost $15-20++ go to the WalMart and get a utility lamp hood from the harware or automotive section for $4-5. If I lacked elthics I'd open up a pet store man they have got serious markups!!

    Nice setup btw Brad.

Getting a utility lamp at Walmart is ok if you don't plan on leaving the light on all the time.
The lamps at Walmart and such have a plastic pc where the bulb screws in as opposed to the lamps from Pet supply houses which are ceramic.
The plastic ones will overheat and can cause a fire whereas the ceramic are meant for high heat. This may only happen 1 in 1000 times but I don't like to take risks. They also cause bulbs to burn out faster.
In my job I have seen guys working using those drop lights and leaving them on all night in houses under construction and fires have started
It is worth the extra 5-10 bucks for the safety issue IMO.
But if you have the light on a T-stat ( which you should) then a Walmart special should be fine as it will go on and off and not likely overheat.

Jody, thanks for the warning. That's something I wouldn't have thought of.
