For thermometers, the accurite is good. Walmart for $12 for the one with the probe to easure temps on the hot spot and cool side. Stick the probe on the glass under substrate and run the wire far enough to have the body of it measure the cool side temp. It also gauges humidity 'decently'.

You won't know what your temps are going to be and how much adjusting you will have to do until you actually have everything in place. It can be trial and error. A UTH is a must but NOT until you get that thermostat. He or she can go without one for a few days if necessary.

Actually your information was great up until the point where you recommend putting the thermostat. I don't mean to come across as mean, but you shouldn't recommend where to put it unless you yourself know where. From what you said, I can tell that you don't. You don't want to put the thermostat inside of the tank because no matter what you do with the probe, a snake can still knock it loose or move it to where that probe isn't registering the heat and it kicks on fully and you end up with a bad situation. This is how mis information gets spread around and people end up spreading that bad advice then the snakes suffer.

You want your thermostat outside of the tank. That way the snake doesn't have access to it. If you need help, just ask.

Well I stand corrected, sorry. You can punch me now. It's nearly midnight here as I'm in another country, so I seriously misread. I didn't even see you mention a thermometer to be honest. I think for some reason when you mentioned probe and uth that your last talk about thermometer translated to thermostat in my head and to even make it worse I'm doing this on my cell phone as I'm trying to sleep. So it likes to randomly scroll at times. Sorry again. You gave great advice :p
