To the OP - Congrats on the new addiction! Genetic Striped are great retics - since they were founded in dwarf populations most tend to stay quite small fortunately. Now, if it's got any "het albino" possibilty, there is a great chance that it is only going to be 50-62.5% Dwarf blood, which will make it a larger growing GS. Again though, grats on the new worm ;-)
Thanks!
Yeah it definitely is a trade off between the pure size of an adult mainland female and the hormonal aggressiveness of an adult male during breeding season. As for this guy there is no het or possible het albino. So he should stay in the 7-8' maybe 9' range of course depending on our feeding schedule.
No matter what his size or temperament ends up being he is here to stay! We have been talking about adding one for awhile and have done our research so we are prepared.
And we've already started looking at possible females to add for breeding purposes in the future!

Sounds good! as long as you know what you are getting into, that is all that matters. And yes, being a male you are safe to say that it will stay at or bellow the 9' mark more than likely, especially if you keep it on rats. Once you get them on rabbits . . .boy do they take off!

Re: Our first Retic!
What if I feed mine small children?!? JK!
Congrats! Just got my first male white phase here about a month ago. He's been pure joy...even with a few challenges here and there.

Was this the male that was won at the auction after hours? I almost took that little guy but hadn't done my research on the sizes of gen stripes.
We flew all the way out there (San Diego) from Virginia for a vacation and I had a dwarf retic in mind the whole time. We ended up driving up to prehistoric pets to purchase one, picked up a male 50% dwarf Purple Albino het gen stripe which should arrive today.
Congrats on him, he is a good looking retic for sure :gj:.

Yes he is! Where were you guys sitting during the auction?
We got him for a great price and the money went to USARK so it was a win win!

Yeah that price was killer but was still one of the bigger purchases of the night. We were disappointed that all those feeders they auctioned were mice. :taz:
We were the couple in the back middle, dark hair. She was wearing a dia de los muertos shirt, cant remember what I was wearing. Pics of us are on our facebook link below though, have some photos of us holding the "Jampea" male from SCHA&R aswell as an albino golden child retic (cant remember the vendors name, my apologies).
We will post some pics of our Purple Albino het gen stripe male either tonight or tomarrow. I'm giving him some time to settle in and treating him with the same respect I would a Varanid due to their intelligence, just going to take interactions very slowly.

Ok cool! I'm pretty sure I remember you guys.
We were sitting right at the top of the exit by the cashiers table. I was wearing a dark grey and orange Puma tshirt and I think the wife was wearing a blue long sleeve shirt..
Yeah those feeders all being mice did suck! I bid on the smalls alittle, but we don't have a huge need for that many frozen mice right now.
It would of been a huge bidding war if they would of had rats though!!!
