Thanks, I think most Dums have them to some degree, but my little girls are much more pronounced than most.

My carpets rarely hold still while they are out. They, also, will jerk around, which can be disconcerting if you're not used to it. Tree boas and tree pythons just are not beginners snakes. The Pacific boas, like the Indonesian tree mentioned, are usually docile and will just wrap around your hand just make sure it is an established feeder. My favorite beginner-friendly snake is the Kingsnake. They behave like you like and are pretty easy to keep if you research them first. Just take your time, look around to see what you like, research the animal's care to see if you can meet it's needs, and then find out what to look for in a healthy snake. Lastly, make sure you have a proper set up ready before getting a snake and don't just by one on impulse, unprepared. Have fun and good luck!

Snakes that wrap around your hand
I held two different corn snakes today and both just wrapped around my arms and start smelling me.

All snakes wrap and grip. I think that different species grip in different ways though. A GTP or carpet python is not going to hold on to you the same way a Ball Python or a colubrid is going to. They all have a different "feel." So. Having said that, here are a couple of choices that will be closest to the jungle carpet python that you liked but that won't get quite as large....

Irian Jaya carpets - this is the smallest species of carpet python. They rarely exceed 5 ft or so and are very light-bodied so they seem smaller still. They also tend to be a bit less flightly and have the best temperaments of all the carpets. IJs are not hard to come by - I can point you towards several very good breeders.

Green Tree Python - also staying around 4-5 ft as adults. Some will say gtps are temperamental and nippy, but if you get an adult that is calm, they can be wonderful snakes with a lot of good personality. My adult male loves to come out and hang with us - often sitting across my husband's shoulders for hours at a time. I can even lift him directly off his perch unless he's in shed or at night.

Rosy Boas - much smaller species that doesn't get over 3-4 ft. They are quite docile and friendly with a lot of personality. Not as hard to come by in the trade anymore. If you have a large expo that is near to you, you should be able to find one there. There were quite a few of them at Tinley Park last year.

    Hope this is helpful! :gj:
