Re: What is the best breeding project to start out with?
I think you should start with just two snakes. A Lavender Snow male and a Clown Pied female.
Your first clutch will look rather ordinary, but then breed the babies together and the grandkids will be great!
No, but seriously. There is a huge range of projects you can do. From the above one that would only set you back $30,000ish and take 5-6 years to get great babies. To getting spider and pastel for $200ish that would give you a shot at bumble bees in the first clutch.
Everyone's tastes are different, so go on http://www.worldofballpythons.com/morphs/ and find what you like. Then buy snakes that have the genes needed and work your way toward the one you like.
As much fun as buying a great snake is, making a great one is much more rewarding.

For my first season, I'm starting with a male bumblebee and 3 normal girls. Next season I'll have a female pinstripe & female albino ready...and hopefully either a male cinnamon or black pastel. I plan on getting a female lesser & male mojave for a future season as well...maybe a pair of her pieds too.

I hope to bred my male albino to my two het albino females. I also plan on breeding my lesser pastel male to my bumble bee female and last my albino male to my pied female. Shooting for the albino pied in the future.
