If I'm not mistaken, and I'm PRETTY sure I am not.....I was QUITE surprised to see that at some point not all that long ago....an individual named Pat Higdon 'acquired' a pair of snakes, that were indeed deemed hybrids, from YOU. I stumbled across the photos of said pair on his iHerp page, under the SOLD category. Hmm....sure hope that whomever they were sold to was aware that they were indeed crosses. Wonder if they ever got bred. :O I'm surprised with how firm you are on your beliefs that hybrids are the demise of the species, that you would knowingly place not one, but a pair, into someone else's ownership, with no way of knowing for SURE what may happen once the animals were out of your hands.....I surely would have thought you would have culled them yourself, just as you have advised the gentleman that started this thread to do with his? :confusd:

Now, I don't agree with the concept of short tailed hybrids, but I don't like dorky little lapdogs either. That said, you don't see me slaughtering every wiener dog I lay my eyes upon. Please remember these are LIVING ANIMALS, not some acne-faced basement dweller's collectible action figures. They actually breath and have a spine, so help the OP find a dignified solution to this. I usually mind my own business, and I am not anti-hybrid, HOWEVER, I do have an issue with the fact that offspring from this crossing are up for sale in a store front and are mis-labeled just as "blood pythons." I feel that since this knowledge has been bestowed upon me, I am morally obligated to speak up. There will be folks that do not know any better that may purchase said animals under the impression that they are indeed "pure," and that is definitely an issue. I haven't been able to make it in person to this store as of yet, but I will, and I will definitely notify the owners as to what the proper identification actually is for these animals.

To the OP: This is what a lot of the folks were referring to throughout this thread. If you choose to cross the species....please be responsible about what you do with the offspring. Whatever you decided not to keep yourself in your private collection, ethically should have been culled, not dumped off to a local pet store that does not know better. Especially when they may end up purchased by folks who also do not know any better, and may believe that they have a "pure" animal, and may end up breeding said animals down the road.

Do as you wish with your snakes, but be responsible. These snakes aren't just for you, they are for everyone, and someone seeking a pure specimen is entitled to such. This is one sure fire way to become black listed in the Blood Python community.

I just hope that you take some of this insight, and learn from it. It's not meant as an attack, but rather an attempt to educate.

I told the pet store several time they were crosses and have since been there in person to make sure there were no issues and they said there were none. they know what they bought and didnt seem to have a problem with it

I am not going to lie when i bred these animals i was told it was a good idea now looking back i wish i wouldnt have. i have been ridiculed and put down enough. People make mistakes and people need to be a little more understanding of this. people on this site are so quick to jump down someones throat. Quit being so agressive i dont know anyone who will take advice for someone being a pushy know it all.If you want people to listen talk to them advice them dont be a jerk about it.

I don't think anyone's being particularly aggressive or "a jerk" so to speak. It's a pretty serious issue for many people. Yes, admitting you made a mistake is part of the equation, but the other part is taking ownership of that mistake & ensuring that there's as little "collateral damage" as possible. Instead, those snakes are out in the general pet trade and being misrepresented, so it's easy to see where the concern comes into play.

My spouse went to the store in person, as he has known the folks that own the place for years. He was on the phone with me when he did so, and I overheard straight hand from their store manager there that they were NOT aware that they were crosses. Now they know for sure. I feel like that was at least an accomplishment. I haven't been there since, so I am not sure if they changed the label on the animals, they may or may not have. We may go into town this weekend and see.

I don't feel that I could have been any softer in my posting above. It can't always be butterflies and sparkles. Heck I have been verbally attacked legitimately in the past BECAUSE I am NOT anti-hybrid. (I am however ALL about taking full responsibility for ones actions if you should choose to do so, as I stated prior.) I take care in my wordings not to talk down to anyone and I do my best not to be disrespectful. I am happy to hear that you did learn from this and do see it as a mistake, with babies from this cross breeding now in general circulation with unknown destinations.
