yes, the pad goes under the tank to create a hot spot but you need a thermostat to regulate it so your snake doesn't get burned

U can find a heat mat at pet smart or pet store but make sure u have something to control the heat that comes out of it and a temp controller with probe so it doesn't get to hot.
