First, don't see the need to point out spelling errors.

Secondly, it's his yard. It doesn't look at all deep, and if you're allowing your children to run all over people's lawns, then it's kind of your own fault.

I could see a fence around a pool, if he had small children around. I don't see the point of a fence around a koi pond that's been outlined in big rocks..

Looks great pigfat. More pictures better be coming once you have fish!

Haha wow dude spelling police really go you. An if it was my pond my resonse to that second part is its not deep you can tell just by looking at it. An if he doesnt have kids of his own where is the worry, its not his responsibility to keep track of neighbor kids their parents can do that and kids need to be taught to stay out of peoples lawns. Parents let their children be unruly an do what they want, then expect us with out them make sure our kid free lives don't get in the way of the monsters. If you can't keep your child from drowing in a koi pond maybe your not parent material.

I hate to jump in the fray, but he does have legal responsibility if an unattended kid drowns in his man-made pond. Doesn't make it fair or right, but that's how our lovely laws work. My home owners insurance would be thru the roof if my pool didn't have a gated fence, regardless of the fact that there should never be children trespassing in my back yard.

Yea but a pool and a tub of water are different things, and a good lawyer would easily get that case thrown out.

That's like me washing my car with a bucket of water and I go inside to take a break or use the bathroom and a kid comes by and falls in headfirst in the 5 gallon bucket of water that I was washing my car with and drowns. A pool is something different because it's a huge body of water.

I never said it was sensible, or that he should fence the pond, just that that's how the law works at times.

Yea, the law can be stupid, especially about a lot of things.

That's actually quite awesome, I'll have to research that one day when I have kids.

I am so so sorry I misspelled koi. Second, I don't have kids and there are no kids that live within blocks of my house so I'm not worried at all about someone falling in my 1' 6" pond in my front yard. I appreciate the pessimism though. I live in a pretty nice neighborhood so Im not worried about people stealing fish either, and to be honest I haven't even decided if I am going to put fish in it. I may just go with some goldfish and see how they do...and Walmart has their high-quality koi fish I can always buy lol.
