Maybe we could picket the store, LOL! The th9ing that stinks is I can't do anything about it. I'm too young for them to even really care about my opinion. Grrrrr...petco drives me crazy.

I do not even go into petco anymore. I am sick of their dehydrated Bps and boas. I tried telling the workers about it, and they swear up n' down that they'll fix it, but it never happens. So I just shop at my local fish store (owned by a great friend of mine who knows her stuff and listens to advice if she doesn't).

Some petstore workers are so ignorant and closed-minded. Even if you were 80, they would still ignore you! They will not listen. I giveup. :(

    Any Ideas?
Actually I think most stores and people shouldn't sell exotics. They don't know what there doing and they really arent gonna invest the money in all the different types of things each different type of exotic needs.
Most stores, Corp. or mom and pop figure they will turn it over fairly quick so don't need to spend the $ to make things they way they should be.
I went into a mom and pop here and at first I thought Wow this place is great until I went in the back and they had a 7' boa in a cage about 3'x2'x2' and another even bigger in the same size. Then I see a cool looking rat snake and his eye is all messed up, looked like retained eye cap from a long time ago.
Anyway I tell the girl and she says " oh it's been like that for a year that's why he isn't for sale" and I ask her why the hell in a years time they haven't taken it to the vet and she just gave me one of those 18 yo old eye rolls and looks like I was an a**.
My Petco comes and goes with good and bad depending on who is working there. The new guys there are way into repitles and all own several different kinds and are trying but the same bp's and boas have been there for months and now arent looking to good at all. It breaks my heart everytime I go in there. I just want to take them all home.

LOL....you're gonna have to get used to handling dead things when you get your snake. It seemed distasteful to me as well, but turned out to be no big deal at all.

My roomates girlfriend used to work at petco and that's exactly what they used to do - put the sick or dying animals in the back or in the fridge/freezer rather than pay the have them looked at by a vet or whatever because it was cheaper than vet bills and the suppliers would usually send another animal if they could produce a corpse and blame it on shipment.

Yeah... I already posted that I wish the sale of all animals was left up to specialized breeders. I've had a few people tell me that they're not real fond of their local Petsmart stores. I wish I could control it all but I can only do so much. However, if any body ever sees something wrong with an animal or it's habitat in a Petsmart store, there should be our 800 # careline that customers are welcome to call to report any wrong doing. If the number isn't posted on or around the habitats it's probably for a reason... and the manager should be notified.

Our regional specialty managers are really great-- they get on everyone's behind about our animals' care and maintenance. If a call comes in about one of our stores you can bet they'll receive an unexpected visit to catch whatever is going on. Store directors can be pretty spineless and boneheaded some times but the regional managers really kick ass if something isn't right. Ok, I'm done... for now ;)

Keep in mind that I'm not saying every PetCo is or was this way, but I have yet to be in a PetCo that takes excellent care of their reptiles though I know a few of you other posters have PetCos that do a good job near you.
