Believe me, I know snakes are not a get-rich-quick scheme. :)

If you are patient and just want the potential to recoup your costs later down the road, I'd suggest the second method I mentioned. It gives you a ton of options for different combos, and lots of females to work with; you can even get some dom or codom morph females het for pied, and pick a male with a few genes that is also het for pied (since that is what your hubby likes). It is certainly the route for success and many people follow it with a giant smile on their face the whole way through.

Yeah, go with option 2. If you get 2 of the same morph right away you're going to end up getting 5 more snakes in your first month anyway.

Purchase 4 or 5 single or double gene female hatchlings, grow them up for two
years or more, and purchase a nice double or triple gene male a year before you
plan to breed the females so that he will be ready for them. Lots more options
and combos are possible and once you make back your investment you have way
more combo options when you purchase new males since your females will all be
morphs.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Exactly what i'm doing. Once my hypo, lesser, yb, and fire girls are up to size in a few years ill put the hypo fire male that im getting to them. Will be making some killer combos. I did cheat a bit and bought my cinny girl when she already had some size on her but whatever lol.

I also agree with the second option. That's what I'm doing also. Only my oldest snakes are reaching breeding size (and the ones that are garbage disposals) right now, but the main crop of my investment will be ready next winter and 2014. October's around the time I'll be on the hunt for knock out males.
