Re: UPDATE on my dumeril's boa thread PIC HEAVY
i wasnt worried at all that you were coming down on me & didnt take it as such. you were concerned, as was i, which is why i started this thread. to discuss this snake's situation & get other experienced owner's input. this is a new species for me since i've only had my mojave ball python for 2 1/2 yrs now.
but balls & dums need very different setups & despite the research i did for the last few weeks there really isnt too much in-depth info out there on them.
one thing remain blatantly clear & that is the common need among all reptiles & it's heating devices MUST be controlled, period.
so now im happy to give this poor stressed girl a break & let her settle, now that her set up is pretty good. i rearranged it now that i dont have to use the water dish to block the heat pad...got a few small silk plants to make it pretty for her...
    Here it is now...

Hopefully, once she's had some time to calm down & adjust to these changes, she'll get more comfortable with her re-modeled home & go exploring in her new "paradise". ;)
i hated seeing her so upset though, & im thinking that may be why she was behaving the way she was with the previous owner.
He bought her a few months ago for his 8 yr old son but when she nipped his son a couple times he was ready to throw in the towel cuz his son became afraid of her.
Everything i saw was telling me she's stressed & why? her set up was all wrong - extremely high heat from the UNcontrolled heat pad, no thermometer or hygrometer, too low humidity which resulted in a poor shed (possibly others) & very dirty bedding.
um, you put ME in those conditions & i'm gonna be snapping at anything & everything too!
& my hubby is like "& this dude said he's owned snake's before? :weirdface"...
uh, not with this level of ignorance sorry. :colbert:

    Evenstar
I'm glad you have her. She is in good hands now. People are so dumb sometimes, I just want to strangle them. :P

Your setup looks good now. Boas don't stress like balls do so you can get away with only one hide. And the plants look nice. She should do fine there until she gets too big, lol....
